Heading to Washington to Steal Christmas and the Season Series

July 20, 2017
The Washington Valor return to Verizon Center this Saturday, July 22, taking on the Baltimore Brigade at 7 p.m. The Valor are hosting their first home game since June 3, while the Brigade are taking part in their first road matchup in over a month. The game will be broadcast on Monumental Sports Network. Washington and Baltimore will be looking to break a 1-1 split in the season series with the home team winning each of the previous outings. The Valor were victorious in Week 1 at Verizon Center, winning 51-38, while the Brigade took the Week 12 matchup at Royal Farms Arena, 51-41.

The Valor will be hosting the team’s first-ever “Christmas in July” celebration prior to and during the game. Included in the planned holiday festivities: a pregame party, cookie decorating, family photo stations, team prizes, charitable donation opportunities and a surprise giveaway moment.

BRIGADE PLAYER TO WATCH: WR REGGIE GRAY – After missing a portion of the season with a collarbone injury, Baltimore WR Reggie Gray has worked his way back into form and is coming off a season-high four touchdowns against the Storm last weekend – his fourth-straight game with a score. In two matchups with the Valor this season, Gray has combined for 21 receptions, 250 yards and four touchdowns.

VALOR PLAYER TO WATCH:  DB James Harrell – Harrell, a four-year AFL veteran out of Arkansas Pine-Bluff, has played in each of the last four games for the Valor, amassing at least six total tackles in each of those matchups and providing a spark for a Valor defense that allows the fewest passing yards per game in the league. His 25 total tackles over the four-game span lead the team.

MATCHUP TO WATCH: BAL QB SHANE CARDEN vs. WAS DB TRACY BELTON – Rookie QB Shane Carden carries the load for the Brigade offense, ranking second in the league in yards per game (2,931) and third in completion percentage (65.4) and touchdowns per game (5.4). Across the line of scrimmage stands Valor DB Tracy Belton, who sets the tone for a Valor defense that allows 51.6 points per game, third best in the AFL. Belton ranks third in the league in total tackles (57) and is tied for second with four interceptions on the season.

BROADCAST INFORMATION: Saturday night’s game will be broadcast live on Monumental Sports Network.
