The Baltimore Brigade (3-6) host the undefeated, defending-champion Philadelphia Soul (10-0) this Sat., July 8 at Royal Farms Arena. The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network with kickoff set for 7 p.m. The Brigade are coming off a bye week, preceded by a 51-41 win over the Washington Valor in Week 12 while the Soul enter the game on a 17-game winning streak dating back to last season. The teams have met twice this season, both Soul wins in Philadelphia.
BRIGADE PLAYER TO WATCH:
WR REGGIE GRAY – This will be Gray’s first game against the Soul since suffering a collarbone injury during Baltimore’s Week 4 matchup in Philadelphia – an injury that sidelined him for four games. In his second game back, Gray was named Offensive Player of the Game for his nine-catch, 111-yard and three-touchdown performance in the Brigade’s 51-41 win over the Washington Valor in Week 12. Gray now has 230 receiving touchdowns on his career and sits just five scores away from 12th place on the AFL all-time list.
SOUL PLAYER TO WATCH:
WR DARIUS REYNOLDS – Reynolds, the Soul’s primary wideout, leads the league in receiving touchdowns (28) and ranks third in both yards per catch (14.6) and yards per game (87.6). Reynolds caught eight passes for 105 yards and three touchdowns in Philadelphia’s last meeting with the Brigade.
MATCHUP TO WATCH:
BAL QB SHANE CARDEN vs. PHI PASS DEFENSE – Brigade rookie QB Shane Carden sets the pace for the Baltimore offense, ranking second in the AFL in completion percentage and third in passing yards and passing touchdowns per game. Carden has thrown for 5+ touchdowns in every game since Week 1, including a season-high seven touchdowns in Week 11 against Cleveland. Carden threw for over 250 yards and five touchdowns in each of the teams’ previous meetings. On the other side of the line is one of them most effective secondary groups in the AFL. DBs James Romain and Dwayne Hollis rank 1-2 in the league in total tackles while LB Beau Bell ranks first with 9.5 sacks. The Soul defense allows a league-low 45.1 points per game.
