The Arena Football League announced today that Baltimore Brigade Head Coach Omarr Smith has been named the 2018 Marcum-Moss Head Coach of the Year. The award is named after AFL Hall of Fame coaches Time Marcum and Perry Moss. Smith becomes the second coach in league history to win both Head Coach of the Year and Assistant Coach of the Year in the same career.
“Over the course of his entire AFL career, both as a player and a coach, Omarr has proven himself to be a winner and a championship caliber leader,” said Roger Mody, Managing Partner of Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s Arena Football League teams. “Omarr is one of the hardest workers in the AFL and one of the best representations of everything that makes this league special. He is incredibly deserving of this honor.”
Smith, an AFL Hall of Famer and one of the most decorated individuals in league history, led Baltimore to a 7-5 regular season record, a three-win improvement from 2017, and the second seed in the 2018 AFL postseason. With a 110-86 aggregate win in a two-game series with Philadelphia, Smith’s Brigade clinched their first ArenaBowl berth in franchise history.
Smith looks to capture the eighth ArenaBowl title of his career this Saturday, July 28 at 7 p.m. at Royal Farms Arena when the Brigade take on the Washington Valor. Smith won four ArenaBowls as a player (2002, 2003, 2004 and 2007) and three as an assistant coach (2012, 2013 and 2015).
