The Arena Football League announced today that Baltimore Brigade DL Khreem Smith has been named 2017 AFL Defensive Lineman of the Year. The six-year AFL vet and former Oklahoma State Cowboy recorded nine sacks this season, tied for most in the league among defensive linemen, to go along with two forced fumbles and a pass deflection.
“Khreem did an outstanding job getting after the quarterback this season,” Brigade Head Coach Omarr Smith said. “He’s shown, over the course of his career, that he is one of the best pass rushers this league has ever seen – and this season’s performance only solidifies that notion.”
In six AFL seasons, Smith has amassed 115 total tackles, 13 forced fumbles and 36 sacks, which rank 23rd on the league’s all-time list. His nine sacks in 2017 were a career high, outdoing the eight sacks he recorded as a rookie in 2006.
